New article on potato yield in Canada

What will be the evolution of potato yield in Canada in the future with climate change?

The article by Jégo et al. (2025) focuses on potatoes, an important staple crop in Canada. The effect of 15 climate change scenarios (classified as low, moderate, and high) on potato yield potential (without water or nitrogen stress) and rainfed yield (without nitrogen stress) at 59 sites across Canada representing current and future production regions was studied using three crop models (DSSAT, DNDC and STICS).

In regions where production is currently limited or even impossible due to a growing season that is too short, simulations show an increase in potential and rainfall yields in the future. For other regions, by 2050, simulations show a slight to moderate increase in potential and rainfall yields, but stable or lower yields in the more distant future (2051–2080).
